Just a quick follow up to Claudio’s post about the Eddie Pumer’s Oobu Joobu track notes from the Rude Studio Tapes. All of Eddie Pumer’s notes are re-posted here for your viewing pleasure.
If this is everything found at Rude Studio, as of the early nineties, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. First, I thought there was simply more stuff. Although this was mostly a product of my imagination. Second, I’m surprised how much of this stuff has leaked in one form or another, or that we’ve known about for some time. Granted, we should never have heard what “leaked”, but…
The best Rude demos we have heard thus far appeared in the mid-eighties. Most of these were nearly complete songs from 77-80, a majority of which appeared on Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace. It’s hard to imagine that there would be hundreds more tracks just like those. Thus, what I fear is more typical of the majority of Rude demos is the contents of RUDE DAT 2. Most of these (“Dervish Crazy Moog”, “Hey Man (Cards On The Table)”, “Fishy Matters Underwater”, etc…) don’t encourage repeated listens. They are interesting, but are no doubt just sketches. Pumer passed on most of the tracks, recommending only a fraction for “Oobu Joobu”. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Plus, we’re missing pages for RUDE DAT 7 and 8.
